Abstract

While Bhutan’s geostrategic location makes it unique to strategic discourses in Eastern Himalayas, its biophysical profile with contrasting physiographic zones makes it a center for studying the impact of climate change. This Chapter explores how climate change is affecting the Kingdom of Bhutan despite being a net carbon-negative country. The chapter assesses the impact of climate change on three specific areas—hydropower, agriculture, and glaciers and argues for a shift from macro geopolitical analysis to discourses which focus on the microsector-specific aspects. These situated perspectives can help us deal effectively with the challenges of climate change.
