Orientation meeting of the Centre with amb. Anup K. Mudgal, India’s former High Commissioner to Mauritius

The  Interdisciplinary Centre for Excellence on Climate Change, Green Transition and Sustainability held an Orientation lecture which was delivered by Ambassador Mudgal on December 9, 2024 Ambassador Mudgal, who has served in the Steering Committee on Blue Economy under Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council (PMEAC), shared his experience by   focusing on the Centre’s progress, challenges of Climate Change, and the need for a collaborative response. The meeting began with an introduction by faculty members who have joined the Centre, followed by a presentation on the Centre’s website, which is still in progress. Professor Pooran Pandey,  shared the ongoing initiatives which the Centre has undertaken since the last inception  meeting held on  July 2024. 
 
Ambassador Mudgal provided a historical context of Climate Change, underscoring the tension between human development and environmental sustainability, particularly in the context of Global South. The complexities of global warming, including the implications of carbon emissions and the Paris Agreement targets, were highlighted alongside the necessity for capacity building and linking education to real-world challenges. Participants also discussed the Centre’s logo design before concluding with action items, which among others focused on partnerships, training programs, and event planning to advance the Centre’s mission. Education, Capacity Building and Innovation emerged as the key focus areas of the Centre. The interaction was also attended by a few Masters and Doctoral students, interested in issues related to climate change, green transition and sustainability.
